President Rodrigo Duterte will allocate P2 billion to the Department of Health to provide free medicines for the poor this Christmas season.

This was disclosed by the Chief Executive on late Monday as he led the traditional lighting of the MalacaƱang Christmas Tree held at the MalacaƱan Palace grounds.

Duterte said the money will come from the check worth P5 billion he received from Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

He added that the money, originally alloted for his socio-civic projects, will also be apportioned to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

“I want every Filipino holding a reseta of a doctor that could not find the money to buy the medicines, sabi ko ibigay niyo yang P2 billion na yan this Christmas,” the President disclosed.

“So kayong Pilipinas, nakikinig sa akin ngayon, may mga reseta kayo, go to the [DSWD] or hanapin mo ang inyong city health or the hospital itself and we will buy the medicines for you,” he added.

Aside from free medicines, Duterte also reiterated his promised to grant executive clemency to political elderly prisoners before christmas time.
