Senator Gordon: 'Sana ibalik na lang ang lumang pangalan ng LNMB'

Amidst the ongoing protests and issues looming the burial of the late President Ferdinand Marcos, Senator Richard “Dick” Gordon suggested to change Libingan ng mga Bayani back to Republic Memorial Cemetary.

According to his interview in Bombo Radyo, the senator simply wants to end the growing division in the country between Marcos’ supporters and the opposition.

"It’s better to just change the name of the cemetery back to “Republic Memorial Cemetery,” he said.

Although Senator Gordon opposed most of Marco's decisions before, he firmly believes that the late president passed the requirements to be buried in the Heroes’ Cemetery.

He explained the existence of the cemetery was in accordance with the Republic Act 289 which stated that it will be in construction for national heroes, patriots, and presidents of the Philippines.

Bayan Muna Partylist Rep. Neri Colmenares pointed out that their rights as petitioners have been taken away even though the decision of the Supreme Court is not yet considered executory and final.

However, the Supreme Court have already released an official statement that Marcos’ burial at LNMB is considered legal since there was no law broken nor any case being filed against it.
