PNP Chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa became emotional after Senator Zubiri’s lauded and told him that the senators supports him 100 percent in anti-illegal drugs.
This was happened during the resumption of the Senate probe on the death of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa.
Zubiri said that Dela Rosa may be disappointed with the involvement of several police officers in illegal drug operations.
“”Sa tingin ko, ikaw na lang ang pinagkakatiwalaan namin. Ikaw na lang talaga ang pag-asa namin, because we believe in you,” Sen. Zubiri said to Dela Rosa.
This statement made Dela Rosa shed to tears, saying afterwards that it was difficult to become the police chief.
Bato then told Zubiri that he cannot blame the people if they slowly losing their trust to the police after the controversy that they faced.
“I cannot blame the public. Maski ako nga, hindi ko na alam kung sino ang pagkakatiwalaan.” Dela Rosa told the committee.
He admitted that he's having a hard time in managing the Philippine National Police, but he’s really determined to reform the organization that he love so much.
“Gustong gusto kong mareform yung PNP, mahal na mahal ko yung organization namin… ako’y hirap na hirap na.. But I will never surrender” he said.
Dela Rosa also vowed that he will never leave President Duterte on his fight against illegal drugs.
“Sinabi ko sa presidente, ‘di kita iiwan sa laban na ‘to. I will be with you, no matter what.” PNP Chief added.
After his emotional statement, Senator Zubiri said that he really trust Dela Rosa and he then approached and comforted him.
