A netizen named Joseph Morate started an online petition to impeach Ombudsman of the Philippines Conchita Morales, due to being selective in investigating charges and failure to perform her duty.
The Ombudsman previously told reporters that her office will not conduct investigation on De Lima’s drug trade involvement as they are all mere allegations without legal basis.
"We would like to start a petition to Impeach Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales for failing to do her duty and refusing to initiate a probe into the matter of Sen. Leila de Lima alleged ties to various Drug Trafficking operations, in particular her alleged connection to the proliferation of illegal drugs at New Bilibid Prison," Joseph Morate wrote on his petition at change.org.
Morate said that committing a crime is always a choice. That’s why the primary, proper response to crime is not explanations or excuses, it is punishment - proportionate, meaningful punishment.
He added, refusal to investigate a potential crime will lead to the failure of our justice system and as such the responsibility of such a failure rests with Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales.
Included with the filed petition are the names of the people who strongly agree that Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales must be impeached and removed from public office so that justice may be served swiftly.
