"Tough guy but warm, corteous and charming."
This is how New Zealand's foreign minister described President Rodrigo Duterte's leadership and personality on their informal meeting last Tuesday.
Murray McCully, foreign minister of New Zealand, shared he discussed the disputed South China Sea with "charming" President Duterte during an informal meeting, according to a report of ABS-CBN News.
"He's a tough guy but he was warm, courteous and actually quite charming," McCully told the New Zealand Herald after the meeting.
"He doesn't beat around the bush. He has got quite firm views and he expresses them, and very colorfully," he added.
McCully and Duterte had an informal meeting during the latter’s overnight stopover in Auckland, New Zealand, on his way back to the Philippines from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Peru.
McCully narrated that they had a lot of discussion late on Tuesday but declined to give comments when asked about Duterte’s campaign against illegal drugs.
