PNP chief Dela Rosa defends cops amidst criticism
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Roland "Bato" Dela Rosa defended police personnel amidst criticism on drug-related campaign.

Yung iba diyan na sige lang criticize sa ginagawa namin na operations sa aming war against drugs….Hindi po pupuwedeng hintayin namin na kami ang mamatay. Kailangan talaga naming lumaban para sa sarili namin," Dela Rosa said.

(But that's the problem. There are those who criticize our operations in the war against drugs. We cannot just wait for them to kill us. We need to fight back for our own sake.)

Huwag ninyong hintayin na magiging ganito ang pamilya ninyo, ha (Don't wait for this to happen to your families, okay?)" said Dela Rosa.

"Gusto kong malaman ninyo kung ano yung feeling ng pamilya ng nawawalan ng padre de pamilya. Eh ang pulis nagtratrabaho lang…Tanggap namin na kami ay mamamatay (I want you to know the feeling of a family who has lost the head of a family. The cop is only doing his job. We know that we can die) any time in the course of us performing our job," the PNP chief added.

This statement was made during his visit to the wake of Senior Police Officer 4 Edgar Dumagat, who was killed Thursday morning when trying to serve a warrant of arrest on a murder suspect.

More than 400 drug suspects were killed because they supposedly fought back against law enforcers.

The PNP chief has maintained that he is against to all forms of extra-judicial killings and if there are any cases in the future, he is ready to face them.
