New 'high-end security' passports out Monday - Palace
New passports with added security features will be released starting Monday, the Presidential Communication Office confirmed on Sunday.

Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said the newly design passports contains feature that would promote regions of the country.

"Added security features have been placed, including a microchip with the personal data of the applicant, invisible UV fluorescent ink and thread, and an elaborate design when subject to UV light," Andanar explained.

"Other changes include intaglio or embossed printing used for the printing of money and the printing of the coat of arms using optical variable illusion ink, where color varies at different angles," he added.

Among other designs to be featured in the new passports are the Philippine eagle and green turtle.

According to Andanar, APO Production Unit, an agency supervised by the PCO, was able to increase the production speed of passports to 35 percent and would be readily available to Filipinos who wish to go to other countries.

“This means the new passport printing system results to delivery of passports from press to the Department of Foreign Affairs to an average of five days compared to the previous 7 to 14 days,” Andanar said.

The APO Productions Unit, Inc. is under the Presidential Communications Office, which Andanar heads.
