The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) already approved the release of P500 million for emergency assistance to the stranded OFWs in Saudi Arabia.
According to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello, the approval of emergency assistance is listed in Board Resolution No. 6, Series of 2016 of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
Around P20,000 cash relief assistance would be alloted to every stranded OFW's, and another P6,000 for their families or beneficiaries here in the country," Bello said.
Bello, chairman of the OWWA Board of Trustees hopes that the financial assistance would alleviate the plight of the jobless OFWs affected by the economic crisis in the Middle East brought by the drop of oil prices.
The affected workers are employed in nine companies in Saudi Arabia, including the Al Mojil Group (MMG), Saudi Bin Laden Group and Saudi Oger.
The company has experienced financial problems that affects their performance of their obligations, caused of delayed or wages not being paid, and other expenses and benefits.
