Former President Joseph "Erap"Estrada insisted Tuesday that President Rodrigo Duterte does not require emergency situation powers to solve the debilitating traffic situation in Metro Manila.
Estrada, now mayor of Manila, said local officials themselves could alleviate traffic jam in their locations.
"Hindi naman kailangan magkaroon ng emergency situation [powers] Patututukan lang ang batas. Pag sinabing kalsada, hindi dapat pagtindahan, itong kalsada ginawa para sa daanan ng mga sasakyan-- 'yun lang," he said.
Duterte on Monday once again advised Congress to provide him emergency powers to repair traffic congestion that are setting you back the country P2.4 billion daily.
Flood-prone roads, overlooked transport framework and rundown trains have made driving a daily anguish in the city.
In Manila, numerous roads are populated with illegally parked vehicles and vendors which create website traffic canal.
Estrada himself recently took the lead in the city's large clean-up drive and also cleaning procedures.
Last week, the mayor looked after the clearing of unlawful stalls in the Divisoria and Pedro Gil aspects.
